PROJECT

Narbutas International called for accessories that could complement their existing furniture lines or would be representative of the company. After the introduction of manufacturing spaces and the production process the focus gravitated towards the potential of the company’s waste materials.

A collection of objects for the office space developed by choosing materials composing the highest waste volume from the standard production lines of the company.
The project highlights and reflects on the leftover materials encouraging to see what value it can have. As it is a source of semi-processed material that usually is disposed of.

TASK

To make a proposition for a sustainable circle utilizing industrial waste produced from the company’s standard furniture collections with a concept accessory line for the office space became the focus of the project.

For all objects made dry knots or magnets were used to cleanly connect parts together.
First two objects of the series are both coat hangers for the office space.

The first object whilst not in use functions as an additional light source for the space. The central plexiglass part has a LED light strip built inside.
Using multiple modules of the object on a wall different structures and light patterns can be achieved.

The second hanger consists of fourteen uniform coated metal profiles, four connecting ‘Y’ joint parts and uniform pairs of plexiglas blocks that assemble into two ‘X’ shapes. All pieces are pressure fitted together with a joint resembling mortise and tenon joint. The two ‘X’ shapes are held by in place with strong rubberised magnets to create a free standing object.

Third of the object series is a group of utensils for your desk - “The desk architecture”.

User has the freedom to use the product custom according to individual needs, situation and free space - to create his personal and unique desk architecture.

Metal profiles are sealed with plexiglas bottoms. The pieces are fluid-resistant and bound together with rubberised magnets. Some metal pieces are varnished to maintain a visible welding seam, others are chrome plated. All objects are coated on the inside.

In the process of making the accessory line industrial waste of metal profiles, plexiglas, foam, wood, plywood and spoiled sheets of MDP were used.

Although a lot of pieces didn’t make the cut and remain as sketches.

Metal waste came in almost module-like shapes, identical to each other and immediately had a lot of potential for becoming structures and patterns benefiting large spaces as lighting or for decor purposes in modular clusters.
